This year’s annual TORCH Conference: Rebuilding from COVID – Raising the Census aims to bring you education and information relevant to what the senior industry does every day. It’s an opportunity to learn about the latest trends in the industry and how one can provide the best experience for the senior clientele. This will be a hybrid event which you can attend in-person or via Zoom on the TORCHCON21 platform. The conference offers 24 hour CALM certification, 9.5 RN CNE contact hours, and 10.5 Social Work CE contact hours.
Stephanie is speaking on Music & Memory on Tuesday, September 28 10:30-11:30AM CDT. Discover the difference that personalized music can make for those suffering from physical challenges as well as individuals who are memory impaired. In Texas, a statewide effort including the use of Music & Memory led to decreased use of antipsychotic drugs in nursing facilities by 58 percent – more than any other state. Texas first launched Music & Memory in 2015 as a pilot program in nursing facilities and at HHSC’s state supported living centers and Austin State Hospital in 2016 using Mp3 players. Since then, more than 1,000 nursing homes across Texas have taken part in the HHSC Music & Memory program. Although the program began in skilled care environments, it has quickly spread to Hospitals, VA’s, Assisted Living homes, Adult Day Health Care programs, Home Health agencies, treatment centers and even Hospice organizations in end-of-life care. In response to COVID-19, we created the Music & Memory Tablet Engagement program and now more than ever, as residential care organizations are looking for more in-room activities to help reduce the emotional and physical effects of isolation, tablets can make it easier to stay connected and provide genuine communication.
